Sustainable Timber
Mathews Timber have been buying and supplying timber throughout Australia and the world since 1959. We are mindful that in today’s world there is ever increasing emphasis on impact to our environment in all that we do. We are committed to ensuring that our forests are there for future generations. We only deal with suppliers who are equally committed.
We source timber only from traders who strictly adhere to a sustainable management of resources. Many of our timbers are available from Certified responsible sources – Mathews Timber are FSC® & PEFC Certified and have Chain of Custody Accreditation.
Chain of Custody
A process for tracking certified timber from the tree in the forest, through the processing plant to the trader and then to the final customer. It is important that systems are in place at each stage to ensure identification of the timber and third party auditing of the supply chain is taken out to ensure there is not contamination at any point. Each party in the supply chain must have a COC system audited against a set working method and hold a current COC certificate. It is essential that customers stipulate certification requirements at time of order so that invoices conform to our COC requirements.
Forest Stewardship Council ®
Founded in 1993 to raise the standards of forest management and create openness in the timber supply chain through an internationally recognized timber certification process. By 2010 more than 129 million hectares of forest throughout the world had been certified to FSC® standards in over 79 countries. FSC® certified timber is offered as FSC® 100% from well managed forests and FSC® Mix sources from well managed forests and controlled sources.
